5 Reasons Why You Should Be Using Twitter

Twitter LogoFor those of you who don’t know,  Twitter celebrated its seventh birthday on March 21, 2013. This marked seven years to the day since Jack Dorsey sent his first tweet from a micro-blogging social network site which at the time was known as twttr.

Twitter has come a long way since then and it often gets a bad rap by people who either don’t understand it, misunderstand it, or don’t realize its full potential. When used to its full potential Twitter can be one of the best tools to build your platform.

Well, let me prove it to you with five reasons why you should be using Twitter:

1. Build A Community

An online community will help you promote your purpose, get feedback and advice, and chat with people who have the same passion in life. (tweet this)

For most of us, building an online community is essential, and it’s hard to create a community in the digital age without having some way to connect with people outside of our current network.

With over 218 million active users Twitter is a great way to find people to build a community. Twitter allows you to connect with anyone in the world who has a Twitter account.

2. Get Breaking News

Twitter is a great source for real time, breaking news. People on Twitter are tweeting stories before traditional reporters can put their stories together and get editorial approval. Since people can simply snap a picture or video with their iPhone, type a short message, and click send news spreads quickly.

Who needs CNN when you can read the story on Twitter first?

3. Track Online Trends

In addition to breaking news Twitter, twitter is a great tools for tracking online trends.  Twitter will let you know of a YouTube video going viral, the latest happenings of  your favorite celebrity, and even what your friends are watching on TV.  

Since most trending topics on Twitter have a hashtag assigned to them, it makes it easy to follow almost any topic that interests you.

4. Get Customer Service

Your favorite company or brand most likely monitors their twitter account. This can be one of the fastest and easiest ways to get instant customer service.

I have used Twitter to successfully solve customer service issues with two different companies. In both cases I received an almost immediate solution to my problem.

5. Get Advice Quickly

Twitter is a great tool for getting quick answers to pretty much any question that you can think of. It is often quicker than Google, and provides answers that you would not be able to find by Googling your question.

Keep in mind that Twitter is not Google, it is real people providing real answers to your questions. The quality of your Twitter followers will determine the quality of the responses that you receive.

Well, that is my top five reasons for using Twitter. I find it very helpful when I need to know what is going on in the world, need an answer to a quick question, have a customer service issue, or just want to connect with people.
